Your Golden Rules for Staying Safe Online

Follow these simple rules every time you go online — on any device, any app, any website.

Rule 1

Keep Personal Info Private

Never share your full name, home address, school name, phone number or passwords online.

💡 Think of personal info like a house key — only trusted people should have it.
Rule 2

Never Meet Online Friends

People online might not be who they say they are. Never meet them alone.

💡 Always tell a trusted adult if someone asks to meet you.
Rule 3

Think Before You Post

Once something is posted online, it may stay forever.

💡 Ask: Would I be happy if everyone saw this?
Rule 4

Use Strong Passwords & Keep Them Secret

Once something is posted online, it may stay forever.

💡 Ask: Would I be happy if everyone saw this?
Rule 5

Be Kind — Cyberbullying Hurts Too

Rule 6

⚠ KNOW THE SIGNS

Watch Out For These Warning Signs

Some things online are red flags. If any of these happen, stop and tell a grown-up right away.

😨

Someone asks you to keep a secret from your parents

Trustworthy adults never ask children to keep secrets from their parents. If someone online says 'don't tell your mum or dad' — that is a big red flag. Stop the chat and tell an adult immediately.

🎁

Someone offers you gifts, money, or free game credits

People who offer free gifts or game coins to children online usually want something in return. Never accept offers from online strangers — always tell a parent first.

💬

An adult is asking personal questions or being overly friendly

Safe adults don't need to chat privately with children they don't know in real life. If an adult is asking where you live or wants to video call you — tell a parent now.

📱

You're being asked to move to a private app or chat

'Let's talk somewhere private where no one can see' is a grooming tactic. Never move a conversation to a private platform at a stranger's request.

It's Always OK to Talk to Someone You Trust

You will NEVER get in trouble for telling an adult about something that made you uncomfortable online — even if you weren't supposed to be on that website. Your safety is what matters most.

YOU CAN SAY:

"Something happened online and I feel weird about it. Can I talk to you?"

YOU CAN SAY:

"Someone online was asking me personal questions and I didn't know what to do."

YOU CAN SAY:

"I saw something online that scared me. I think I need help."
